Why Sunset Is the Best Time to Ride?

Moab’s red rock landscape truly comes alive at sunset.

As the day cools and the sun lowers toward the horizon, the sandstone cliffs and slickrock formations glow with rich shades of red, orange, and gold. Long shadows stretch across the desert, and the surrounding canyon country becomes even more dramatic.

Evening temperatures are often cooler and more comfortable, making the ride especially enjoyable during warmer months. The softer light also creates incredible opportunities for photos of the Colorado River canyon, the rolling slickrock fins, and the distant La Sal Mountains.

For many guests, the sunset Hummer tour becomes the highlight of their Moab adventure.

Safety & Accessibility Notes

Safety is always the top priority on our Hummer tours. Professional drivers with extensive off-road experience operate the vehicles while guests ride comfortably in the back seats.

The Hummers are specially modified for Moab’s rugged slickrock terrain and are designed to handle steep climbs and descents safely.

Because the trail includes uneven surfaces and dramatic sandstone formations, the ride can be bumpy at times. Guests should be comfortable riding in an off-road vehicle and following guide instructions throughout the tour.

The tour includes occasional stops where guests may step out to enjoy scenic overlooks and take photos. Comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, and sun protection are recommended.

Why Moab Sunsets Are Famous

Sunsets in Moab are unlike anywhere else in the Southwest.

As the sun drops toward the horizon, the towering sandstone cliffs and slickrock formations begin to glow with deep shades of red, orange, and gold. Long shadows stretch across the desert, highlighting the dramatic ridges and valleys that make this landscape so unique.

From the heights of the Hell’s Revenge trail, the views stretch for miles across canyon country. The Colorado River winds through the cliffs below while the distant La Sal Mountains catch the final light of the day.

Watching the sun set over Moab’s red rock landscape from the top of the slickrock is one of those rare moments that stays with you long after the trip is over.
