Explore the Famous Fins N’ Things Trail

While Hell’s Revenge gets most of the headlines, Fins N’ Things is one of the most beloved trails in the Sand Flats Recreation Area.

The trail winds across a landscape of rolling sandstone “fins,” narrow ridges of ancient petrified sand dunes that rise and fall across the desert. These formations were created from wind-blown dunes that hardened into sandstone millions of years ago and now form the dramatic terrain Moab is famous for.

Fins N’ Things delivers a completely different off-road experience from Hell’s Revenge. Instead of long dramatic climbs, the trail twists across slickrock domes, weaving between sandstone ridges and small canyons. The result is a fun, flowing ride with constant ups and downs that feel like a natural rollercoaster through the desert.

Along the way, the trail reveals sweeping views of the surrounding canyon country and the towering La Sal Mountains, which rise nearly 13,000 feet above the desert floor.

By combining Hell’s Revenge and Fins N’ Things into one adventure, the 4-Hour Grand Hummer Safari offers the most complete off-road experience in Moab.

Hell’s Revenge vs. Fins N’ Things

Two Legendary Moab Trails, One Incredible Adventure

Moab’s Sand Flats Recreation Area is home to some of the most famous off-road trails in the world. Two of the most popular are Hell’s Revenge and Fins N’ Things, each offering a completely different type of adventure across the slickrock landscape.

Hell’s Revenge

Hell’s Revenge is known for its dramatic slickrock fins and steep climbs. The trail runs along narrow sandstone ridges that rise high above the desert floor, creating thrilling ascents, steep descents, and sweeping views of the surrounding canyon country. From several points along the trail, guests can look down into the Colorado River canyon and even see rock formations inside Arches National Park across the river.

Fins N’ Things

Fins N’ Things offers a different style of off-road experience. Instead of long climbs along ridges, this trail winds across rolling slickrock domes and sandstone fins, creating a fun series of ups, downs, and twists through the desert landscape. The terrain flows like a natural rollercoaster across ancient petrified sand dunes, with beautiful views of the surrounding red rock formations and the distant La Sal Mountains.

The Best of Both Worlds

Most tours only visit one trail. The 4-Hour Grand Hummer Safari explores both Hell’s Revenge and Fins N’ Things, giving guests the chance to experience the most famous slickrock terrain in Moab in a single adventure.

Together, these two trails showcase why the Sand Flats Recreation Area has become one of the world’s most iconic off-road destinations.
